At DVIF&G, we have provided fertility services to the LGBT community since 1994. Starting a family can seem a bit complicated, but our third party coordinator can help you navigate the journey.
Female Same Sex Couples
Female same sex couples can select an anonymous or known sperm donor. Once selected, the donated sperm is inseminated into the recipient woman’s uterus. This procedure is known as intrauterine insemination (IUI). Often, the female patient is placed on oral or injectable medications to increase the number of developing eggs per cycle and increase success rates.
In Vitro Fertilization
Female same sex couples can also choose to participate in IVF treatment. Once a sperm donor is selected, one female partner undergoes stimulation with injectable medications. Her eggs are then retrieved and fertilized with donor sperm. The resulting embryo can then be transferred into her own uterus, or into her partner’s uterus. The latter option allows both partners to have an active role in treatment.
